Many parents will feel an understandable shiver at news that yet another Barbie DVD has just been released - and just before Christmas as well. Actually, however, The Magic of Pegaus is pretty good. It’s a nice simple tale, with good music, and a return to form for the seriies after the slightly wierd Fairytopia. For anyone new to the Barbie canon, however, what you really need are the Blonde One’s versions of Swan Lake
and the Nutcracker
. Obviously, they had to make a few changes to the original, mainly to squeeze in a role for Shelley. But actually, they are very faithful to the originals, and the music is left intact. How else are you going to introduce a three year old to such a great work of art? Both are among the best DVDs you can buy for tiny girls.
