A clever parrot saved his owner from burning to death in a fire in his home in Leeds, in the North of England.

When the fire started, Merlin the Parrot tried squawking, but Peter, his owner, is deaf and could not hear him, although Merlin sounds rather like a real fire alarm sometimes. Merlin managed to escape from his cage which is in the bedroom where Peter was sleeping. He walked up and down Peter’s chest until he woke up and realised the danger. Afterwards, Peter said that Merlin is his best friend.
