The Sound of the Lord of the Rings
The world’s most expensive musical has opened in Toronto, Canada. The show is based on The Lord of the Rings, the fantasy novel by the British author, JR Tolkein. If you have read the book or seen the film, you will know it is an epic saga with magic and adventures involving hobbits, elves, and wizards. The characters have names like Frodo Baggins and Gandalf. Many people love The Lord of the Rings, but Bertie says that it is not quite his thing.
It seems that the theatre critics – the writers who gives their opinions on plays and musicals – did not think that the Lord of the Rings made a good musical. Some of them said it was difficult to understand what was going on. As it cost an awful lot of money – $25 million ($14 million) – it may have been a very expensive mistake.
