A new leg for a Kiwi
The Kiwi bird is the national symbol of New Zealand, and so when the Zoo in Wellington, New Zealand discovered a wild kiwi who had lost his leg, they decided to make him a new one. In fact, the one-legged kiwi was managing to get around by hopping, but the Zoo decided that he would have trouble impressing a mate. They were helped out by Weta Workshop which made special effects and models for the movie, The Lord of the Rings.
