mouse poems

If you have ever been tempted to be just a little bit greedy, then you will sympathise with the hero of The Mouse and the Cake by Eliza Cook. Like all good Victorian poems for children, this verse tale has a strong moral in its ending.

The Country Mouse and the City Mouse by Richard Scrafton Sharpe is an enormously charming tale, that is based on an ancient Latin satire by Horace. We are glad to say that the moral is not quite so severe as in The Mouse and the Cake.

Needless to say, Natasha brings both these poems to life with her usual flair and feeling. The full text is here.
