I recall listening to this story. My dad read it to me. He used a very flat voice so it sounded boring. When you read it, it sounded great because you made your voice interesting. Can you tell me how to read to people like that? I always use a flat voice like my dad.

Really glad you like the story. Lots of fish are fish. But lots of different types of fishes or species of fishes are fishes. But you are right. In this context it does look like it should be “fish”. All I can say is that it’s an old text, and we didn’t change it very much from the original – so on this occasion, it’s not us !
