People from all over the world use Storynory to learn English. To help them, we offer an easy translation tool.

Double-click a word on the page. A menu of languages will pop-up. Select your language . Now any word you double-click will give you a pop-up translation.

The menu is quite long, and you may have to scroll down the page to see your language.

To reload this service, either refresh the page or go to another page.

Some words have more than one meaning, and the computer does not always get the right context, but it is accurate on most occasions.

Languages currently on offer are :

Albanian, Arabic, Bulgarian, Catalan, Chinese (Simplified), Chinese (Traditional), Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, Estonian, Filipino, Finnish, French, Galician, German, Greek, Hebrew, Hindi, Hungarian, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Latvian, Lithuanian, Maltese, Norwegian, Persian (Farsi), Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Serbian, Slovak, Slovenian, Spanish, Swedish, Thai, Turkish, Ukrainian, Vietnamese.

This service works with Google Translate and jQuery SundayMorning. We will add other languages as soon as Google adds them to its service.

hello, first of all, I’m so happy to be the first one to comment about it.I’m 17 years old from Egypt and I’m good at English but I sometimes read(or hear)words in your stories that I don’t understand and I just guess it.I really LOVe English language and your stories! Translating the stories is very helpful and I’m sure it will make your site very popular. Thanks!

Dear Distant One, I’m really pleased you find the translation helpful. We think it’s a good feature, but the hard part is making people realise that it’s available. So I am really glad that you have tried it out. Thank you.

Are you ever going to have any stories in American Sign Language? I know you have a variety of languages, but it would be nice to add ASL if you could? This is a very neat website. :) keep up the great work!

  • Posted September 29, 2009 at 7:46 am | Permalink

Dear Shelly, thanks for the nice idea. We only do stories in English at the moment, though you can click the texts for a quick translation. I’m not quite sure how we would do that in American Sign Language. But perhaps one day we will figure that out. It is a cool idea.

  • Posted October 16, 2009 at 4:41 pm | Permalink

Dear Zahra, Many thanks for letting me know about your language. We use Google Translate,
    http://translate.google.com/support/toolkit/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=147837

And they have recently added Farsi. I will have to see how to implement this on Storynory.

why doesnt add to turkish but i want to learning English

  • Posted October 26, 2009 at 8:52 am | Permalink

Dear Saban, I’m sorry we don’t have Turkish on the translate program at the moment. It’s not currently in the service we are using to do this. I’d like to see if this is a way I can add it myself, but it isn’t entirely straightforward for me.

I just finished Orpheus, loved it and have passed this site to my family. A relative in her 20’s is learning how to read and her baby almost 2 is tentative to her reading stories. This is a wonderful site for all ages and I intend to let a lot of people in on this secret. Thanks so much for this wonderful instrument to learning.
